A Ten Minute Immersion in the Spirit of the Forestpathway

Mother Nature has, according to her schedule (and not my miscalculated guess) unfolded her  offerings on the forest floor at Oceanstone and invites you to step off the treadmill and experience a few refreshing moments of quiet, contemplative time and wisdom.

See what the great teachers of the ages had to say about our connection to the natural world...and to each other. There is no charge and you may walk the path whenever you wish.  (Go to Oceanstone's Main Page if you do not know our inn)

Proper footwear is recommended (hiking boots or casual shoes) as there is the occasional hill or moist spot. But for the most part, the path is an easy ten minute stroll.

What is the Harbour Woods Thoughtway?

tree sign 1
The thoughtway is a ten minute escape from a world stuck in fast forward: a relaxing contemplative walk through time and wisdom in an old Nova Scotia stand of spruce and the occasional hardwood.

Here and there, on a tree at eye level, is a carefully chosen quotation about the natural world and our relation to it.

We believe that good quotations, like pearls, are ground and polished with time, and if proven worthy,  they emerge strong, well-rounded and enduring.

Such is the history of the time-tested words of wisdom about our environment and our place in it that dot the pathway through this old, glacier-scrubbed land... (Back)

Where is it?
driveway

On the opposite side of the street from Oceanstone's driveway at 8650 Peggy's Cove Road, in Indian Harbour, on the forested lands owned by Oceanstone.

Look for a driveway that leads in to the Thoughtway parking lot hidden by the trees, as pictured here.

What about Parking?

Parking is available in the large lot described above. The entrance to the path is not clearly marked as it is not open to the general passing public, but to a select few who have shown enough of an interest to read this far. :-) (Back)

When is the Thoughtway at its best?

Depending on preference, in the spring of the year when the forest floor is alive and bursting with new possibility.    But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so there is always something of majesty and wonder to behold: each season has its rhythms, its charms.

Re time of day, early morning or late afternoon provide a warm, textured light, perfect for photography.

Why is Oceanstone Doing This?

Because of a reverence for and a long term commitment to environmental well-being that goes back many years on our property, to the days of Barbara Jannesch and Akala Point..

We believe that the abusive human behavior that is the cause of much stress to our earthly home has its roots in a set of values totally removed and apart from a spirit of reverence for the beauty, the magic and mystery of the natural world in which we live.

To that end, we hope this little path might bring a relaxing respite from a world gone amok to some, a pathway to spiritual awakening to others, and a thought-provoking way of looking at our precious world for young and old alike. (The path and its environs is ideal and hase been used for school projects, scouts, cub and brownie outings, etc.)

Hope you enjoy! Comments always welcome at … (Back)
